An American citizen has been detained in North Korea, and a trial is pending; the charges include “gTLD proselytism” and dispersion of “dangerous materials.”
This astonishing story involves a portfolio of .XYZ domains that the traveler, Morgan Malkoski, attempted to smuggle into North Korea, a country known for its non-existent Internet access.
“We have very limited news on the matter, other than Morgan’s arrest and the ridiculous accusations by the North Korean government, which we will strongly oppose to,” said the US Secretary of State, John Kerry.
“As a Vietnam veteran I am well aware of the human rights violations that often occur in that region of Asia, we have a commitment to bring Morgan home,” added Kerry.
According to the report, Morgan Malkoski “intended to spread chaos, misinformation and the seeds of evil capitalism to North Korea,” by giving away free .XYZ domains to anyone who owned a rice farm; the North Korean government opposes to any type of “opt out” methodology in asset allocation, and refers to it as “palm oiling.”
Malkoski now faces at least 5 years of hard labor, the North Korean equivalent of US Federal “pound me in the ass” imprisonment.
