AOL to keep dial-up alive for Domainers stuck in the ’90s

Despite recent news about abolishing its dial-up internet service, AOL is reportedly eyeing a “Domainer Dial-Up Plan” for old school domain investors who refuse to trade their 56k modems for fiber.

These OG veterans, often looking up domain names from remote luxury hideaways near a golf course in the boonies, claim that AOL dial-up’s slow load times are an advantage.

“By the time WHOIS loads, you’ve had time to think about the deal,” said Dick Wartz, who holds an AOL dial-up account since 1992.

“My DropCatch bids might be slow but who cares! DropCatch gives me 5 minutes per bid and that’s more than enough time for the page to load,” added Wartz.

AOL Domainer Dial-Up perks include the shipping of monthly trial CDs, You’ve Got Mail alerts for auction wins, and blazing fast 56k speeds for those rare moments when a Sedo landing page absolutely must load in under a minute over your BellSouth landline.
