The entity ruling over the registrations of .au domains is called .au Domain Administration Ltd (auDA.)

The company is the policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .au domain space.

A domain reseller of an accredited registrar allowed registrants from China, Eastern Europe, North America and Asian countries to use fake Australian business details for their domain names, setting up commercial web sites.

Such practice is strictly prohibited under the .au namespace, and after a manual investigation took place, 1025 .au domains with bogus Australian company details were ordered to be deleted.

auDA did not identify the registrar or the reseller, or the domains that will be deleted.
