Facebook is assisting with the launch of a new campaign, called “Ban #Bossy“.
The focus of the campaign is gender bias; when boys are assertive they are referred to as “leaders“. Meanwhile, girls are typically branded as being “bossy.”
Words like this, send a message that girls, who eventually become women, need not speak up or engage in leadership roles.
Mark Zuckerberg noted on Facebook:
“I’m proud of the work Sheryl and LeanIn.org are doing to support leadership in girls. The world needs more women leaders, and our future depends on every girl being able to reach her full potential. Check out the Ban Bossy campaign launching today at banbossy.com.”
Primary sponsors of the “Ban #Bossy” campaign include Girl Scouts, Lifetime, BBDO and more than a dozen secondary brands and companies.
