Beats, the multi-billion dollar arm of Apple’s audio department, is tired of Chinese counterfeiters and will take them to the cleaners.
Capitalizing on the rather expensive headphones’ popularity, Chinese manufacturers set up shop on hundreds of web sites, selling counterfeit wares at discounted prices.
Beats is going after their bread and butter, the proceeds of the sales, in a lawsuit that aims at generating $2 million dollars per incident and $100,000 per domain name that was used in the process.
Last year, a similar lawsuit filed by the company led to the court-ordered seizure of 1,400 domain names, among other assets.
While we believe that Beats headphones are crap, noone has the right to stop you from wasting your money; counterfeit Beats product manufacturers should be punished by law.
Expect a sizable increase in the number of “Beats” domain names reclaimed en masse via this lawsuit.
