The aged (1995) domain BoatSales.com has finally been sold.
Domain broker, Tracy Fogarty, shared news of the transaction. Tracy is the founder of eNaming.com, a brokerage specializing in elite domain names.
So who bought BoatSales.com?
Currently, the category-defining domain BoatSales.com forwards to Boatmart.com, an online source for all things boats and personal watercrafts (PWCs). According to their web site:
“For over 30 years, Trader Interactive brands have been leaders in their respective industries, connecting buyers and sellers of motorcycles, personal watercraft, snowmobiles, RVs, airplanes, commercial vehicles, and heavy equipment. In each of these realms, Trader Interactive has transformed the marketplace by leading the transition into digital sales and marketing, making us a trusted resource for buyers, private sellers, and dealerships alike.”
Boatmart is part of the family that also includes Cycle Trader, PWC Trader, ATV Trader, Snowmobile Trader, RV Trader, Aero Trader, and Trade-A-Plane. These marketplaces apparently receive an average of 10 million unique visitors every month.
According to historic WHOIS data from DomainTools, the seller of BoatSales.com is Mark Upgrade, a secretive start-up founded under that name in 2018 by “a small group of entrepreneurs” led by Tatiana Bonneau. We are convinced that the company owned BoatSales.com for almost 20 years.
It seems that MarkUpgrade is acting as a broker in this case. The actual buyer appears to be CarSales.com.au, which also owns BoatSales.com.au. They acquired Trader Interactive last year, which likely explains their interest in securing the .com domain to complement their existing brand.
Guy – MarkUpgrade is the seller, the buyer is BoatMart. Whether the latter is related to the .com.au counterpart that’s to be determined.
“the two happiest days of a boaters life is when you buy the boat and sell the boat”
OP, do you know what boat stands for?! Bust Out Another Thousand! Yukyukyukyuk
I guess the best day for BoatSales.com is to sell the boats and bring in the cash$$$$
