Having completed our first transaction with CAX.com – the domain auction platform of French domain entrepreneur, Francois Carrillo – it is time for a quick review.
Francois is known for the introduction of several niche platforms for domains; however, CAX.com accepts domains without any specific classification. With more than 5,000 domains listed currently, CAX.com requires an account in order to bid or list domains.
CAX.com listings appear regularly on Domaining.com – the domain blog aggregator that Francois has created – and it was there that the domain caught our eye, with 2 hours left to go and a single bid. The domain had no reserve and a BIN listed.
Bidding was easy – since we already have a Domaining.com account – and after placing a bid that outbid the previous high bidder by $20 we won the domain name once the clock reached zero.
An email was automatically dispatched, informing us and the seller that we had won the domain and requesting payment; once we submitted the funds via Paypal (4% had to be added to the winning total) another email instructed the seller to transfer the domain over to our account.
The seller was from Canada and promptly emailed us, asking for our GoDaddy account information. The domain was to expire in 10 days, however, so we asked if it were possible to transfer it out to Fabulous.com instead. The reason: when ownership is changed at GoDaddy, they lock a domain down for 60 days; we’d have to renew at GoDaddy and wait 60 days before transferring it out to Fabulous.
As it is, the seller was very co-operative, unlocked the domain and provided us with the auth code. We initiated a transfer out to Fabulous and in 24 hours we had the domain in our possession. At that point, we emailed Francois that the transaction was complete and he released the funds to the seller.
It seems that despite the manual intervention of Francois and CAX.com the system works well, when both seller and buyer want to perform the transaction swiftly. We will definitely use CAX.com in the future again and recommend it to others.

I bought a domain and it was a great experience as well!
I have sold over a dozen domains through Cax/BargainDomains and the process has always been great! I really like how Francois has a hands-on and friendly approach to transactions.
Glad to see more happy customers 😀
Excellent people to deal with.
While the other new auction site – boxcar.com is horrible.
This is the way to have auctions, I will be using them to sell soon
Keep up the good work on all the platforms
He he, what a pleasant surprise!
This is the first post ever published about Cax.com as I estimate I am just at the half of the road to have the marketplace finished with the features and quality I would like to have. So I never advertised this service at the inverse of the vertical marketplaces who are using this platform (PremiumDomains.com, Catchy.com, …).
I don’t want to compare Cax.com with competing marketplaces, I estimate each player has put a lot of resources, work and hopes, none is perfect, and certainly not mine today. Recently Godaddy and Sedo greatly improved their interface, BoxCar has many features that are in my TODO list for months, AfternicDLS a huge exposure…
I am having some success with the BargainDomains.com vertical for months because domains are priced to resellers and because it’s most of our domaining.com audience then there is a good conversion. The sale of domains priced for end-users is more difficult because it’s more an “hold and wait” market, people only purchase when there is a real need.
i have never dealt with him but i don’t like it.
we have about 10,000 more domainer to domainer sales sites than we need.
Todaro – you’re right, after all you tend to simply spam your ‘earmuffs’ and ‘bone’ domain on blogs, so who needs a real platform to sell domains!
Thanks for the info on this – Im def going to list a few domains on cax!
hopefully i will have better luck that trying to sell domains on various forums
You have to admire Francois’s tenacity, he has a domain auction site for every conceivable niche. It’s
rumored his next domain auction site will be exclusively for left handed Domainers, who initially
registered their domains on a Tuesday or Thursday during a full lunar eclipse in October. He is willing to make some exceptions for premium domains not registered on a Tuesday or Thursday, but only if they begin with the letter R and end with the letter W.
🙂
I listed my domains last week and hoping to see some action soon, I like the entire network platform.
Good experience from me too.
The only thing is when you pay via paypal to join CAX, you have to pay for the exchange fees.
CAX stands for Carillio Action X
I was wondering what was the meaning of this [bftp] I have seen on some headline titles.
Thanks to that post I understand it’s: back from the past
Thanks for the second life!
…
The main improvements from this date are:
– Ecrow powered by ECOP.
– Possibility for the seller to create incentives.
– Possibility to create sale pages with presentations including images, video, ….
…
In the TODO list for August:
– Make offer/counter offer option.
– Bulk submission.
– Affiliate program.
– Seller financing and leasing through ECOP (should be released soon).
…
From there I could start focusing on the marketing and no longer spending most of my time in development.
I want to add a rap for Francois, too…
I found & bought a terrific domain (hypnotherapist.com) on Francois’ BargainDomains.com….Very fast, smooth deal – and my experience was exactly as Domaingang’s experience.
Good stuff, Francois…
I like CAX but many times I forget that it still exists.
If I was Francois I would put again in the Domaining.com Home Page the auctions that are closing.
