The unprecedented need for short domains was partially driven by a Hong Kong based fund that gamed the system, buying LLLL .com domains en masse. Everyone else followed, and many are now left holding the proverbial bag.
Some Chinese PPC companies are bombarding Westerners and Chinese holders of LLLL .com domains, with dubious claims in spam emails.
