We ran a poll over the weekend, about how many .XXX domain names people have or plan to register.
The poll is now closed and the results indicate that more than 50% of the voting domainers (57% to be precise) have not invested in .XXX domain registrations and do not plan to either.
The combination of “have not” and “do not intend to” is crucial, as it shows a firm approach to investing in this new gTLD.
Regardless, several other options completed the remaining 43% as follows:
- 2-5 domains : 16%
- 1 domain : 8%
- None, and might register some : 7%
- 6-10 : 7%
- 11-50 : 5%
The sweet spot thus seems to be 2-5 .XXX registrations and it’s interesting seeing that 7% of the voters have not registered any .XXX domains but might consider doing so at some point. It all depends on the initial reports from the market; but by then, the best domains will be gone!
You can also read our post about registrations of non-adult keywords in the .XXX TLD. Incidentally, .XXX domains *CAN* be parked!
Nice .XXX ad on your site!
Alan – It’s beautiful, isn’t it? DomainGang is proud of the industry leaders that sponsor us, including DomainTools and the Dot .Co registry.
Looked on Sedo after the weekend. There seems to be almost 700 XXX domains listed for sale now. Of those, about 30 are listed in the $5000-$10000 range. And, of those, there are really only about a handful worth registering. Interested to see if any of these XXX domain names can command those values.
hey David – Thanks for the info. The .XXX TLD is marginally an investor’s TLD. It’s definitely at a price range that stops many from investing in a larger number of registrations. Domainers must understand that each TLD has its scope and particular purpose. If one is into the adult services industry, the .XXX is perfect for the job. Those that register a bunch of generic, non-adult keywords in .XXX will end up eating the fees.
