It’s a little-known but important fact: when the weather is sunny, warm and simply inviting for outdoors activities, PPC rates plummet, lowering revenue from parked domain names.
Two years of extensive studies at the University of St. Johannes in Stuttgart, Germany have shown that shopper behavior matches that of other primates, such as the orangutan.
When it rains, these hairy primates gather together inside their freshly made nests and pick fleas off one another; but when it’s sunny and warm they frolic in the bushes and up the trees, throwing feces at each other.
Humans, however, shop online for their own range of “crap” when the weather is cold, rainy or miserable.
“I visit web sites at random, clicking on ads for interesting stuff to buy”, said Linda Krause from Littletown, Colorado. “Sometimes I see those funny web sites that my friend calls ‘minisites’ – personally, I think they are crap. But I click on the ads anyway, if there is anything related there. I love window shopping online.”
Not just women, but also metrosexual men often peruse the parked web sites of Sedo, Parked, DomainSponsor etc. when browsing for personal items or gifts.
“Like, I am so totally excited to see pink on those Sedo sites, OMG!”, said Jonas Zigford from San Francisco, California. “It’s like, getting a wedgie in my brain that urges me to shop, shop, click, shop and ahhhhh! So goood!”, he added, sipping pineapple juice from a tall glass with two straws.
Countries such as the UK and the Scandinavian countries offer the highest PPC nowadays, as weather forces shoppers to stay home and online. The lowest PPC comes from countries of the Mediterranean as great, sunny weather sends shoppers to cafes, the beaches and the occasional Greekfest.
“I hope we get some really crappy weather this holiday season”, said Tom Verneris, a domain investor from Ontario, Canada. “I’m sick and tired of the penny pinching rates I get from Parked these days. So no more sunny weather for me and my domains.”
All of a sudden, the most popular destination among domainers became Weather.com
