For the past several weeks we’ve been monitoring the numbers of dot .XYZ domains; the controversy spawned last year by a Network Solutions robo-registration campaign makes the #1 new gTLD a very interesting case.
With tens of thousands of .XYZ domains assigned for free to owners of matching .com domains, Network Solutions created a stash of domains that naturally expires a year later – that time is now.
These numbers are defined by the number of domains in the zone files, and they differ from the total number of registrations, which currently exceed 1 million domains.
As we’re presenting the trends and zone file totals every Monday, the current numbers stand at 796,496 .XYZ domains according to ntldstats.
This is an increase of 5458 domains or 0.69%.
Previous weeks saw a decrease in domains and this is the first time that an increase has been recorded.
In the coming weeks and months a more discernible trend in .XYZ numbers is expected to be established.
