Facebook announced that it’s getting into the realm of dating, by introducing an opt-in feature that’ll match you to same-minded adults.
The unexpected move sent Facebook stock soaring, and that of competing match-making companies dropping.
While Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, appeared giddy and reassuring, privacy issues have affected Facebook in recent months. What would make anyone provide more data just to hook up?
“There are 200 million people on Facebook who list themselves as single,” said Zuckerberg at the company’s annual F8 developer conference. “So clearly there’s something to do here,” he added.
Truth be told, Facebook wants everyone to spend their entire day and as much of their night as possible, scrolling through the app. Now, with the addition of Facebook dating, the world’s top app will attempt to keep more users glued to their screens.
While the domain Facebook.Dating, a Donuts gTLD, has been secured thanks to a DPML block, the domain name FacebookDating.com has been registered since 2005.
It seems that at some point, it was even pointed to adult content. It’s currently being monetized via zero click PPC parking, a practice that has led many domains to UDRP loss in the past, when trademarks are used in this manner.
Facebook is a world-famous brand and would most likely win the case.
