Domain investor, Paul Smith, owns such gems as eCorporation.com and he’s currently watching one of his domain sales gain unprecedented stardom.
“I used to own Flixel.com, loved the domain but had no idea what do with it. I sold it and now you will be seeing Tyra Banks rocking it in her next season.”
Indeed, Smith owned Flixel.com until he sold it in November of 2011; the domain had been listed for sale on DNForum as well.
Flixel.com was acquired by Canadian entrepreneur, Philippe LeBlanc, who rolled out a photographic application called – surprise, surprise – Flixel.
The Flixel app is currently available on the Apple store, and it provides an interface to create, process, store and share animated images; the tagline is “Living Photos.”
The application caught the attention of former model and tv show hostess, Tyra Banks, who will be utilizing the app in the next cycle of “America’s Next Top Model” as an attraction point. Tyra Banks has invested so far approximately $2 million dollars in the Flixel app.
Meanwhile, Paul Smith acknowledges the success of Philippe LeBlanc in creating a meaningful service for the brandable domain; another indication of how domain investors can contribute to the launch of exciting new products and services.
