Republican lawmakers are asserting that the Obama administration’s plan to give up control of key Internet protocols, is a US Constitution violation.
According to a letter sent to the US Accountability Office and signed by Republican politicians, because the US created and developed key elements of the Internet infrastructure, those are US property.
Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Representatives Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Darrell Issa (R-Calif) signed the letter.
In recent years, the role of ICANN role and the expected transition of IANA away from controlling the Internet root servers, have been seen by many as a national “surrender,” and a loss of the important strategic role of America in cyberspace.
