The French may have lost the chance to win a second World Cup in a row but their national domain, dot .FR, is winning.
More than 4 million .FR domain names are now registered, according to Afnic, operators of the French ccTLD.
Between 12,000 and 16,000 new .FR domain names are registered every week, with more than 50% of small companies with online presence in France opting for a domain that ends in .FR.
The French ccTLD, .FR, was allocated on September 2, 1986, making it the 7th ccTLD on the list of national TLDs that went live in the 1980s.
Congratulations, France!
