IRS & Google Earth – Now it’s the time to order that cloaking device

The IRS is using a new weapon in its on-going battle against those that fail to declare substantial income: Google Earth.

Got a new pool built over at Boca Raton? The IRS will soon find out.

Let’s just say that if you have recently built an Olympic sized pool in your back yard and yet collect unemployment benefits due to the bad economy, you might be getting a letter in the mail from your local tax collector.

“Gone are the days where unscrupulous individuals would collect welfare and other government benefits”, said Pinto Pablo Ligar of the San Diego IRS office. “We now use Google Earth to locate new construction, including any size pools, sheds and playgrounds for every individual in the US. We will find you, if you break the law”, he added with a serious expression on his face.

Several government agencies are coordinating this effort in an agreement with Google Earth to provide a special API and enhanced imagery that surpasses that of the public version.

Code-named “IRS Eye in the Sky“, the new Super Google Earth software will be able to locate via GPS the changes on any structure within the continental United States.

Bobby Fushkin, chief project manager for Google Earth explained:

“Many people believe Google is the ‘Big Brother’ but that’s not the point, we are here to forge long-term relationships and establish business to business convergence. The Google Earth – IRS co-operation will generate a great amount of revenue both for the Federal Government and Google Earth.”

It is not known yet how soon will the new Super Google Earth version will be launched and whether it will be immune to camouflage of structures to prevent the “IRS eye in the Sky” from snooping in.
