Memelord.com: Dot .tech buyer claims GoDaddy quoted $200,000 to sell domain

Memelord founder, Jason Levin, broke the internet earlier today—or at least the portion that follows his meme-making business venture, launched in 2024 on the domain Memelord.tech.

Jason shared a printout of a transaction completed via Escrow.com, showing partial details for the acquisition of Memelord.com for the sum of $25,000 dollars.

That domain’s owner was contacted via the GoDaddy brokerage service, costing Jason $99 dollars to establish contact. Their response came back that the owner is seeking $200,000 dollars, a price that Jason declined to entertain.

Fast-forward a few weeks later, someone who claimed to be the registrant reached out to Jason Levin on Instagram. They provided proof of ownership and asked for just $22,000 dollars, an amount that the Memelord founder not only gleefully accepted but added a $3,000 bonus on top of paying the Escrow.com fees.

Despite being nervous about wiring “so much” money to a stranger, the transaction completed and he received the domain, prompting him to share the news with his team.

But was that initial $200,000 quote made by the domain seller who later changed his mind, or was it “cooked up” by the GoDaddy brokers?

We tend to believe that the former took place; despite the .com domain’s potential it was locked down to a growing brand and it sure looked better to cash in now than later. Internal policies prohibit GoDaddy brokers from changing the seller’s output without approval.

Perhaps Jason should also buy Memelords.com, registered in 2016, before Mike Mann‘s current asking price goes up. After raising $3 million via VC funding that should not be a problem.

He clearly liked tech, so my MemeTech (from 1998) is better and below 200k, lol.
