The Miami Herald covered the story of .CO Internet – registry for .co domains – extensively, in its Sunday edition.
Juan Diego Calle, founder and CEO of the company, talked about how he set his goal to “change the fabric of the Internet.”
The growth of .CO surpassed 24% year to year in 2012, reaching $25 million dollars in revenue; with 1.4 million .co domains under management worldwide.
From a marketing standpoint, .CO Internet used methods and promotional techniques that Silicone Valley entrepreneurs are most familiar with, thus hiring creative agency The Pappas Group for the task of launching and promoting the new TLD.
The launch and branding caught on; it is important to note that Google treats .CO as an equal gTLD and not as a ccTLD, such as other national top level domains.
Regarding the hiring of talent, Juan Diego Calle said: “When you have a big dream, you have to think big and hire the right people.”
And that’s a great statement regarding how one should operate a healthy business.
