Microsoft is apparently getting ready to change the name of Cortana, the personal productivity assistant in Windows 10.
Unlike Apple and Siri, Cortana does not arrive with its own domain name. Microsoft has chosen a path on Microsoft.com for Cortana, while Apple is using Siri.com as a forward to Apple.com.
When it comes down to rebranding Cortana, the new expected name is less exotic: Microsoft 365 Assistant.
Renaming Cortana to Microsoft 365 Assistant is meant to reflect the new business focus of the virtual assistant, and Microsoft.
It seems that Microsoft has not secured the matching .com domain name, however.
Microsoft365Assitant.com was registered on the basis of rumors, four days ago, at Dynadot. The domain is parked with a “Coming Soon” notice on Amazon cloud servers.
Registering a domain name that contains a famous trademark such as “Microsoft” is a stupid thing to do, and what qualifies a domainer to be called a cybersquatter: infringing on other people’s marks.
By rebranding from Cortana to Microsoft 365 Assistant, Microsoft controls every aspect of the brand, as it contains its famous corporate name.
