Rest in peace, Internet Explorer.
The original Microsoft browser that caused a lot of dismay in the 90’s is officially dead. Microsoft has ended support for Internet Explorer (IE) yesterday, retiring its aging web browser after almost 27 years.
Launched in 1995, Internet Explorer is now officially replaced by the Microsoft Edge browser.
The original version of IE was part of a Windows 95 Plus upgrade pack released in 1995; it was the most popular web browser with a 95% market share almost twenty years ago.
Microsoft still owns the domain name InternetExplorer.com, registered in 2001.
The domain was part of a UDRP filed by Microsoft in 2005, ordering the domain to be transferred to them; however, it remained in the Italian Respondent’s possession until sometime in 2013.
Microsoft owns the domain MicrosoftEdge.com.
