MyEx.com, the former domain of a notorious revenge porn web site, dropped and is currently in auction.
In June 2018, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC,) the state of Nevada, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada won a legal complaint against the operators of MyEx.com.
According to the law firm C.A. Goldberg, Shad Applegate and EMP Media were the recipients of the order, for publishing sexually intimate images of people without their consent. On top of the non-consensual distribution, many victims had to pay $499 to $2,800 dollars in removal fees.
Federal Trade Commission law firm Hinch Newman LLP reported at the time that the FTC and the state of Nevada obtained a court order permanently shutting down MyEx.com and ordering its operators to pay more than $2 million dollars for posting intimate photos of individuals and other sensitive information.
Registered in 1999, the domain name MyEx.com was renewed until March 11, 2022, when it expired and eventually dropped. It was caught by DropCatch where it’s now in auction:
MyEx.com will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in about 3 days. The auction is public, which means that anyone can create an account and bid on the domain MyEx.com.
Although a domain name such as MyEx.com can be used in a non-abusive manner, the domain’s past definitely weighs heavily on its brandability potential.
Update 5/6/2022: The auction closed at $49,550 dollars with DropCatch account “InsaneDomains” winning it.
