A domainer intending to “educate” the Reddit masses on how to buy and sell domains, received nothing but scorn and derogatory comments.
It didn’t help that the thread starter declared owning at some point more than 1,000 domains, something that in the eyes of many is an instant pass to being a cybersquatter.
“You’re a real son of a bitch. As a 21 year old entrepreneur with a great business, some dude like you has my business domain name and demands $10,000 for it.”, said one comment, while another quipped: “I just wanted to come on here and say that domainers can go fuck themselves.”
Another commentator chimed in:
“As the owner of a couple of businesses that we started on shoestring budgets, I would just like to say that domainers, such as yourself, are some of the lowest forms of “business people” in my book.”
Ouch.
Obviously, the quality of readership isn’t that great at Reddit, that often attracts disparaging commentary from those that disagree with a particular topic.
Our good Samaritan domainer, however, wasn’t shy about unveiling some skeletons from his domain closet:
“I once owned the .com of a famous dead actor and had an informational site about him (and some ads) on it. Out of the blue one day I got an email from the lawyer for his estate demanding the domain and website. I was able to negotiate them reimbursing me for what I had paid ($500) and that was the end of it.”
Judging from the list of domains listed by the thread starter, we can say that he’s probably a domain flipper with low quality domains and a full time job that pays for his domaining hobby year after year.
The domain flipper seems to handle the conversation pretty well. There’s really no reason to attack the guy. You either agree or disagree but either way you have an opportunity to learn something. Sometimes the Internet makes me sad.
Jared – If you take a look at his portfolio you’ll see what I mean. It’s not like he’s sitting on some great generics. The ‘mob’ gets mad at those who truly manage generic domains, believing they can get them for a pittance.
Hey that fat girl’s my cousin
It’s expected really but this is hardly a buzzing reddit thread anyway.
The domainer who started the thread is small time but as said by Jared he does handle his questions well.
It would of been good for him to open up with the fact its nothing special/sneaky either rare cards/comics/nick naks/stock/art they mean and matter to some people and nothing to others but all allow trading for cash to the highest buyer. If one has free range to buy any amount then eventually they will sell too.
Personally, I agree with most of the anti- domain sentiments on reddit. I believe
