It appears that Oak.com – a top tier LLL .com registered in 1990 – has been sold at Sedo.
The new owners, Orchid Software, is an intranet solutions company based in the United Kingdom.
According to the Orchid Software web site:
“With over fifteen years development experience, we are a software house at the forefront of intranet technology. Since 1994, we have combined a hands-on, problem-solving approach with a genuine passion for what we do, creating the most powerful, flexible and feature-rich intranet product available […]”
The interesting part is that the domain wasn’t sold just now, but it was never reported as sold because it remained in the hands of Sedo escrow since February 7, 2012.
Apparently, someone at Sedo realized that the domain was about to expire at the end of October and notified the buyers who transferred it out to their registrar of choice, updating the WHOIS information.
It is expected that such a premium LLL .com must have sold for a minimum of $100,000. Meanwhile, Oak.co sold for $2,505 in August 2012, according to NameBio.
