Let’s face it, the domain registrar business operates on a very thin profit margin.
When it comes down to the original three TLDs e.g. .com/.net/.org pricing varies very little between ICANN accredited registrars.
Naturally, no registrar wants to lose a customer but there are some valid reasons to transfer a domain out to another registrar versus keeping it there, such as:
- Better customer support.
- Lower, discounted rates for a large number of domains. Every penny counts when you have thousands of domains.
- Good versus worthless managing panel.
- Proximity or locality to one’s country.
Usually, drop-catching services like Snapnames or Pool allocate their registrar resources to a variety of globally-dispersed registrars; this way they have more chances of catching a domain. Some of their choices of registrars cause trouble when time comes to transfer out a domain, from 60 days after it’s caught and onwards.
At any rate, upon transferring a domain away from DomainIt.com – an affiliate of Snapnames – we got this on-screen notification which appears to be rather crafty and cute at the same time 😀
Warning: Transferring your domain to another Registrar may result in lowered service, higher prices, less reliability, dry mouth, customer support that may not speak your language, and general frustration and anxiety.
While we have no prior bad experience with DomainIt.com we simply consolidate all of our domains at Fabulous.com – to avoid exactly the symptoms described above 😀
Nice! 😀
