ProtonMail announced the addition of the short domain, Proton.me, as an alternate domain for its users.
According to the announcement:
If you have a ProtonMail account, you’ll be able to activate a free @proton.me address in the coming days. That means if your current email address is john@protonmail.com, you can activate john@proton.me. Until 30 April, the @proton.me address associated with your username is reserved for you — no one else besides you can activate it.
Switzerland-based Proton Mail acquired the domain name Proton.me in July 2018, according to our research. The domain’s seller was from India. Proton.me was registered way back in 2010, a couple of years after Montenegro opened up its .me registrations to the world.
Meanwhile, it’s not clear if Proton Mail was also the buyer behind the acquisition of the domain name Proton.org for $125,000 dollars via Sedo. Although the domain’s transfer has completed, the domain Proton.org does not resolve.
