QualityInfo.org is a domain name registered to the Oregon Employment Department, featuring a web site for posting economic data. The site went dark last week, after the department failed to renew the domain name at Network Solutions.
Registered in 2001, the domain QualityInfo.org is both generic and aged, and if the Oregon Employment Department had not renewed it eventually, the domain would have ended up on some auction platform.
“QualityInfo.org is an important resource for researchers, policymakers and the general public,” the employment department said in a statement. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
Technical troubles are endemic at the employment department, which relies on an obsolete 1990’s computer system to process and pay jobless claims.
