Starbucks Oleato: Is coffee & extra virgin olive oil a good idea?

Coffee in the morning triggers a prompt visit to the bathroom for me. TMI, I know, and yet coffee has the same effect when tossed in an empty stomach for many people.

On the other hand, a shot of Greek extra virgin olive oil in the morning has been linked to longevity, particularly among the Greeks of EVOO-rich Crete.

So why not mix the two, you might ask, for a superb combined effect of caffeine and antioxidants.

Starbucks actually launched a product it calls “Oleato” and it seems that the launch is regional, with Italy being the test bed of consumer adoption. My Italian friends would love a cappuccino any time of the day, and olive oil is spared for drizzling over bread, so I’d say no—that won’t work.

Starbucks Oleato as a product led to the registration of the matching domain, StarbucksOleato.com a few days ago. The domain is in the hands of Starbucks, of course, that did the right thing to promote its brand alongside the product, just like “Microsoft Windows 11” for example.

In this case, Oleato.com, a domain registered in 2019 is parked at BrandBucket with a BIN of $2,540 dollars. The domain’s registrant might have a small window of opportunity to sell at this price, or even raise it, before Starbucks gets its “intend to use” trademark application for OLEATO approved.

One thing is certain: I won’t be driving up to Starbucks for an Oleato grande any time soon.
