TrumpMobile.com: From Donald Trump tycoon game to new cellphone service

The Trump brand has entered the wireless market with the launch of Trump Mobile, a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) unveiled by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump at Trump Tower.

Promising “America-first” connectivity, the service offers a $47.45/month plan dubbed “The 47 Plan,” a golden colored Android smartphone called the T1 Phone, and US-based customer support.

Trump Mobile blends campaign-style branding with everyday telecom needs: 5G access, telehealth, and roadside assistance. While the launch taps into national pride, questions linger over the phone’s “made in USA” claims and the challenges of scaling in a crowded MVNO market.

The brand’s matching domain, TrumpMobile.com, was acquired by the newly-formed telecom company recently. In its current cycle, the domain TrumpMobile.com was registered in 2013 but existed as early as in 2004, according to historic WHOIS records from DomainTools.

That first registration hosted an online game featuring Donald Trump as a real estate tycoon, buying and selling property.

Says this capture from 2004:

“You’ve been entrusted with the pressure-filled job of identifying and developing prime real estate. Buy low and sell high as you take control of vacant lots, stately mansions and commercial buildings. Your staff of handpicked advisors gives you reports to help you make the right choices, but they also sometimes make mistakes – multimillion-dollar mistakes. So use your own judgment as you buy and sell properties and deal with eclectic buyer and seller personalities.”

That apparently unauthorized use of Donald Trump’s name lasted for a few years—after that, the domain was dropped.

It re-emerged in 2013, registered to a Ponte Vedra Beach individual. It appears that despite WHOIS privacy the same person held it until its recent acquisition by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump on June 13.
