An attendee of NamesCon 2016 was found alive, but overweight, at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.
Weighing more than 325lbs and sporting an 8 inch beard, Francisco Oliveira Matas was glad to be found, stuck inside a food pantry.
The Portuguese domainer from Lisbon had to be carried out on a specially constructed stretcher supported by 12 men. He spoke of his adventure while waiting outside for an ambulance to the Las Vegas Metropolitan hospital.
“I was hungry, looking for snack after long session at NamesCon. Found trap door to kitchen pantry at hotel, and door closed. But air and light from floor above, I see snack and food. No problem. Ate well. Hope no bill come!”
The lucky man weighed only 185 lbs when he joined NamesCon 2016 last year, but being unable to move much in the confined space, along with the high calorie snacks available at the pantry, he gained a lot of weight.
Francisco Oliveira Matas won’t be able to attend NamesCon this year, unfortunately, but an estimated 1,300+ others will.
A word of caution: If you feel hungry during the conference, don’t try to sneak into the Tropicana Hotel pantry.
