The Zika virus has already taken its toll among the domain community.
This year’s “B Meeting” by ICANN, scheduled in Panama, has been canceled, due to the Zika virus outbreak in the area. Other potential venues are being explored, but none has yet been selected.
According to the same sources, the ICANN “C Meeting” scheduled in San Juan, Puerto Rico is up in the air, as Puerto Rico has just declared an official Zika warning.
If you don’t know what the heck is Zika, here’s some additional information about the virus.
Update: ICANN released an official statement:
“ICANN56, scheduled to be held in Panama in June 2016, will be moved to another location due to the severity of the Zika Virus outbreak in the Latin America region. A search is currently underway to identify an alternate location where the Zika Virus is not a concern. We look forward to returning to Panama for a future ICANN Meeting.”
