“Can you write copy?”
This is the type of question often asked when employing someone at a position that requires the creative output of descriptive material.
Unfortunately, the notion that someone can “write copy” often fails to include the word “unique“.
You see, it’s very easy to spin-off, clone or plagiarize something, and not give credit to your sources.
That’s exactly what Adriana Tayraco, a writer for BrandProtect.com did with an article titled “Whitney Houston’s daughter gets cybersquatted by porn star“.
Our exclusive story about Bobbi Kristina’s domain woes was posted here on DomainGang under the title “Whitney Houston legacy: Disrespecting the dead by cybersquatting on the living“.
The problem with the article by Adriana Tayraco, isn’t the subject, but rather, the use of similar language and particular keywords along with the lack of attributing a source for the story she “researched”.
Adriana Tayraco makes the same references to “disrespect” of Whitney Houston, which was due to a domain registration “the same day her mother died” and makes references to the culprit of the registration, porn star “Memphitz Creamer“ – something that literally took us a while to identify. But somehow, Adriana Tayraco located “Creamer’s” twitter profile as well.
All information appears in that same order as our exclusive article, with no reference links.
Very convenient, Miss Tayraco.
The problem is that Adriana Tayraco works for a company – BrandProtect.com – that “uses proprietary technology to constantly search the internet for threats associated with identity theft, social media and intellectual property abuse“, according to their web site.
It’s ironic that such a blatant type of abuse comes from an associate of a company that attempts to “protect” one’s intellectual property, copy, and other uniquely identifiable information.
While imitation is often attributed to admiration, plagiarism is an indication of lazy, sloppy and incompetent copy-writing. Perhaps Miss Adriana Tayraco’s employer will need to reevaluate her contribution to the company’s blog.
