Ron Jackson of DNJournal published yesterday a snippet of news that caught our attention.
Former CEO of the .ORG Registry, Alexa Raad, announced the formation of Architelos – a corporation that will specialize in market development; the focus being the domain industry.
The company web site at Architelos.com gives its explanation about the name being a composite from two Greek words, “archaios” and “telos” – for “ancient” and “goal” or “end” respectively.
However, someone didn’t perform a good enough research with regards to the Greek language!
“Archi” means “beginning” in Greek, which better matches the second compound of “telos” which means “the end” in the modern Greek language. In the times of Aristotle, “telos” did have the philosophical meaning of “goal” or “intention” but utter this word in modern Greece and you’d be telling people you want something to finish or end.
In other words: Architelos literally means “the beginning, the end” and despite its odd sounding it’s a smart combination of terms that indicate a spanning of a timeline.
Best of success to Architelos, wishing them a solid start and a very distant ending 😀

A two word phrase in which the words ironically contradict each other (just like humans)

“The end” is obviously a warning sign that the apocalypse is near. I should probably hold off on painting the house this weekend. It might anger the gods and hasten the event.
Thanks for the heads-up.
BullS – Thanks for the suggestion, the Red Cross is the first major charity that comes to mind.
SL – Sure thing, “the beginning” of “the end” of household chores depends on global events.
