Domains NOT to register : WalmartPickup.com

Welcome to WalMart.

Welcome to Wal-Mart.

The following message should be mandatory at every domain Registrar, prior to one’s registration of a domain:

“AVOID REGISTERING POPULAR BRAND NAMES, OR RISK LOSING YOUR DOMAIN.”

It’s that simple.

And yet, silly domainers and ignorant opportunists alike, go for domains that contain famous brands and their assorted trademarks.

In this latest case of “Domains NOT to register“, we bring you WalmartPickup.com, a domain that was just lost via UDRP at the WIPO.

Naturally, Wal-Mart filed it, and rightfully so: They own incontestable registered trademark rights, with use dating back to at least July 1962.

“Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is the world’s largest retailer. It provides a wide range of goods and services under the trademark WALMART and WAL-MART (collectively, the “Trademarks”) in many countries.

Complainant allows customers to order products online for pickup at its stores, and thus uses the phrase “store pickup” to describe such services.”

Not only is Wal-Mart the largest retailer in the world, they also utilize the domain names walmartpickupdelivery.com, walmartpickupgrocery.com and walmartgrocerypickup.com, alongside walmart.com of course.

The Respondent did not respond, and the sole panelist in this case ordered the domain to be picked up by Wal-Mart. 😉
