Chinese domain sales : Enter the Dragon – or is it the Monkey?

Chinese domain sales report.

Chinese domain sales report.

China has always cultured its associate image as that of the mythical dragon.

Enter the Dragon, is a 1973 Hong Kong martial arts film, starring Bruce Lee, John Saxon and Jim Kelly.

And that’s where the analogy ends today, as China’s economy these days matches less aggressive animals.

It’s the Year of the Monkey, and recovery from New Year’s celebrations has been extremely slow among the Chinese investors.

The beginning of a trading week in China sets the mood for the following days, and we’re reaching the end of the month; 2016 is a leap year, with February 29th falling on a Monday.

Domain investing in China has been moderately slow lately, and we aren’t sure whether that’s due to a lack of willingness to spend accumulated cash, or loss of interest in domains as a wealth vessel.

New opportunities, such as alternate ccTLDs and gTLDs add much to the confusion among Chinese domain investors.

And that’s one of the reasons we only track short, 2-4 character domain transactions among the Chinese, and for only .CN and .COM domains.

Here is today’s list:

We are seeing an increase in “Chip domain” activity, which will hopefully continue, as 2015 has been a strong year for investors interested in this particular domain niche.
