Raymond ‘Ray’ King, CEO of Top Level Design, LLC, has put together an interesting article on Entrepreneur.com.
Citing how start-up founders begin their quest to find the perfect dot .com, only to find out these domains are ‘held ransom’, King explores the alternatives offered today.
Entrepreneurs today are in a position of taking advantage some exciting new extensions that allow them to ‘ditch .com for good.’
The summary of four main reasons to ditch .com domains, as explained by King’s article:
- Industry specific top level domains
- Campaign friendly top level domains
- Community and geographical top level domains
- Expanded language domains
While we are not sure whether a new company would go all the way, ditching the .com on behalf of a new gTLD completely, the approach comes from an industry specialist.
