Welcome to Libya – an ancient country where an eccentric man has been running the show for the past 42 years.
Essentially a dictator, Muammar al Gathafi imposed a totalitarian clench over the people of Libya, often playing a game of carrot and stick; the billions of dollars in oil assets were primarily invested in arms and his own inner circle of trust. The people of Libya only receive tokens of the wealth, in terms of healthcare and education assistance.
The official web site of Muammar al Gathafi is at algathafi.org but currently there is nothing there to remind us of the glorious days of the African leader, who once proclaimed himself “King of Kings“.
A cached copy of algathafi.org from Archive.org is filled with images of Muammar al Gathafi in various poses that indicate action and leadership, even kicking a soccer ball!
The real problem with the Libyan dictator’s name is its Latin spelling; there are so many variations that it’s impossible to consider monetizing it as registered domains: Gaddafi, Khadafy, Kadafi, Qaddafi. In an ABC News article from 2009, the list contains no less than 112 variants of how to spell the name.
It is clear, that unlike his former Egyptian counter-part, Hosni Mubarak, there is no easy way to make a similar bold statement in the domainers’ world 😀
