An article over at The New York Times tells the story of Chicago.com and its current owner, Josh Metnick.
In that article that drips loads of nostalgia about the early Internet days, Mr. Metnick is touted as an entrepreneur of extreme caliber. After all, he did spend $500,000 to buy Chicago.com ten years ago from a guy named Karl Swartz.
Relax. It’s “Swartz”, not “Schwartz”. 😀
The article also mentions that the Chicago.com owner is about to start offering email addresses under the Chicago.com domain:
“Initial pricing for individuals’ names will be $295 for a year, $735 for three years, $975 for five years and $1,750 for 10 years. […] As for the maximum 26 addresses using a letter of the alphabet, he thinks they could fetch $250,000 each. “
A quarter of a million dollars for a single letter email address?
Now, that’s fresh.
Surely for that sum, one can get any other Chicago.TLD and save enough cash for a condo in Miami! Or a bridge in Brooklyn.
