Oops! Non-adult domains in the .XXX TLD

The .XXX TLD launched on December 6th was a triumph of perseverance over both the religious right and the conservative US government that held it down for the eight years of the George W. Bush administration.

Thousands of .XXX domains were registered, at a premium price and thousands more are expected to become active web sites.

While some in the adult entertainment industry remain skeptical, the majority of adult web masters embrace the opportunity to develop and provide a safe, adult-oriented TLD that there is no mistaking about its scope and content.

Which brings up the question: what about non-adult domains registered in the .XXX TLD?

Those that registered terms that bear no relation to adult content, e.g. slippers.xxx, lunch.xxx, sunshine.xxx, restaurants.xxx etc. are stuck with a TLD that by default is tagged as adult by Google and other search engines. Good luck showing a lunch buffet on lunch.xxx that doesn’t include edible panties.

Obviously, there are generic keywords that while they are not explicit, they describe adult content, for example: jewelry.xxx, books.xxx, photography.xxx etc.

Whether parked or developed, those generic keywords that pertain to the adult industry are smart registrations. The rest are probably a waste of $100.

I see plenty of crappy registrations by members of DNF and NP. What a way to waste their money.

Gnanes – Each TLD is different in its scope; the .XXX is the first and only adult-oriented TLD. People need to use common sense for once 🙂
