Adobe just launched Creative Cloud – a service that aspires to be the forerunner of Creative Suite 6 online.
The creative tools media giant acquired the domain name CreativeCloud.com in December, having filed in September for a Creative Cloud trademark.
According to Adobe:
“Adobe Creative Cloud gives you the freedom to design anything you can imagine. It’s the digital hub that lets you download and install any of the new Adobe Creative Suite® 6 desktop apps you want, plus Adobe Muse™ and Adobe Edge preview software.”
Currently, CreativeCloud.com simply forwards to Creative.Adobe.com; the domain at some point was owned by domain investor Page Howe, until July 2009. Page Howe must have sold it, as a new owner took control of CreativeCloud.com and parked it, according to top WHOIS tool, DomainTools.
In May 2011, the domain changed hands once again, and its new owner, Chris Condon, soon resold it to a person named Mark Hirsch in September 2011. By mid-December 2011, the domain CreativeCloud.com was in the hands of Adobe Incorporated.
Did Adobe use Mark Hirsch as a ‘trojan horse‘, in order to quietly acquire CreativeCloud.com, or was Mark Hirsch a savvy investor who was aware of Adobe’s plans to launch the Creative Cloud service?
It could be a combination of both 🙂 Mark runs CreativeWorx.com and according to their web site:
“For the last 3 years, CreativeWorx CEO Mark Hirsch was employed by Adobe, where he architected his vision for dramatically improving workflows within creative organizations. With full Adobe support, he left to start CreativeWorx and fully realize that vision.”
By having apparent knowledge of the Adobe plans, Mark managed to acquire CreativeCloud.com from its previous owner, and was apparently rewarded handsomely by Adobe for this domain.
That’s exactly how entrepreneurial genius works these days; one have to remain ahead of the competition and utilize their resources to the maximum – while doing so quietly.
