A former computer hacker that spent four and a half years in federal prison has been released on parole.
Meet Bob “Juice” Bokowitz, an expert of social engineering and an avid domain thief.
As part of his parole program, Bob Bokowitz agreed to a series of articles regarding security, digital asset protection and domain safety.
This is part 1 of an open series, exclusively to DomainGang.
“Hi, I’m Bob Bokowitz and I spent 54 months in the Federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. My friends call me ‘Juice’.
It’s not a joke; my crimes cost companies millions of dollars in lost revenue and wasted man-hours. I am obviously very sorry for what I did, only because I got caught. Just kidding!
But let me tell you, the life of a computer hacker, a digital thief, a mastermind of domain crime is not all fun and games. I never bought a yacht or lived a lavish lifestyle, I did it all for the rush – not the money.
Let me tell you how I did it.
So I would call you up, at 7:30am in the morning, posing as a cable company manager. By telling you that your cable account is in trouble, I would then extract vital information from you. Please confirm your account, I would say – asking you essentially to provide it. Little by little I would fill out your profile: phone number, address, account number, then the most important stuff like your SSN and last four digit numbers of your credit card.
I’m good like that, or at least, I was. I won’t deny that time served in prison took part of my addiction away. The last remaining parts of it, I will now have to narrate them in order to get the same rush.
The secret to social engineer your way into one’s information is to appear casual, friendly, with a steady voice.
One practices those things with someone else, on the phone. Once you’re ready, you go for the test run. While you ask for the vital information, you inject other questions, such as about the weather or their favorite movie.
You build up your target’s trust; before they know it, you’re in.”
To be continued.

i like reading your blog…. one small piece of advice… you should tweak your jokes so they are funny.
RaTHeaD – Thanks. What made you believe this is a joke post? I don’t see any smilies in it. Bob is doing his social service by unveiling how he did it. It’s a serious article. After all, it’s Sunday.
