Microsoft unveils new logo after 25 years but misses on a special .com

Microsoft updated its logo after 25 years!

Microsoft unveiled a new corporate logo yesterday; it’s first corporate identity change in 25 years! Which means, there is still room for change here at DomainGang, as we’re approaching the electronic publication’s 3rd anniversary.

Said Jeff Hansen, General Manager, Brand Strategy, about the new Microsoft logo:

“In advance of one of the most significant waves of product launches in Microsoft’s history, today we are unveiling a new logo for the company. It’s been 25 years since we’ve updated the Microsoft logo and now is the perfect time for a change.

This is an incredibly exciting year for Microsoft as we prepare to release new versions of nearly all of our products. From Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 to Xbox services to the next version of Office, you will see a common look and feel across these products providing a familiar and seamless experience on PCs, phones, tablets and TVs. This wave of new releases is not only a reimagining of our most popular products, but also represents a new era for Microsoft, so our logo should evolve to visually accentuate this new beginning.”

While the new Microsoft logo is crisp and follows the company’s new “clean and square” look for the upcoming Windows 8, the domain name MicrosoftLogo.com is surprisingly available still, according to top WHOIS tool, DomainTools.

Not that we’d advise anyone to register it, of course; just an observation of its availability. One would expect that Microsoft would secure this valuable domain, once and for all.

Microsoft is a famous mark and such obvious trademark infringement would naturally end up in a UDRP for the domain name.
