Domain investors with half an ounce of gray matter already know the single best-kept secret in domaining: long tail, descriptive domain names.
While some silly, brainless domain flippers prefer the so-called “brandables“, most domain investors with a degree from Domain University invest in nothing but long tails.
“Without a doubt, brandables are a bunch of junk,” said Mat Daemon of Louisville, Kentucky.
“Get your long tail descriptive .com’s before the year ends and they are all gone. I’ve registered over 500 so far in 2013, most with leftovers from the GoDaddy Groupon deal,” added Daemon.
The benefits behind preferring long-tail domain registrations are obvious: any word can stick to another word, then to another word, and then the .com is available – most of the time.
“Domains like PeanutButterKnifeSpreader.com and FastFoodExfoliator.com are the hidden gems,” said Mat Daemon. “It’s not science, anyone can do it with a little help from their friends after watching the game and having a few cold ones! Hey-yooo!” exclaimed Daemon.
But why are brandables, such as Flickr.com and Clipz.com so despised among the more serious domain investors?
A study has shown that the element of seriousness is more prevalent in the right brain hemisphere; all while creativity exists in the left hemisphere of the brain.
In other words, to be creative and like brandables, one has to be able to make use of the other half of their brain. This takes time, practice and a few cold beers.
