Coffee and donuts shop, Dunkin Donuts, is expanding its deliciousness into new, untapped territory: domain names.
Often challenged by supposedly hip and pseudo-upscale coffee shops, such as Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts is on the rise in large metropolitan areas and trucker stops alike.
“We heard there is a company out there called ‘Donuts’ that are supposed to be specialists in something, and that made us thinking out of the proverbial box,” said company executive Barbara Javah.
“By rolling out free domain registrations in seven markets, Dunkin Donuts will once again become the pioneer in coffee and instant online gratification!” exclaimed Javah.
Domain registrations will carry a symbolic fee of one penny ($0.01) and registrations will be made from the special Dunkin Donuts penny jar.
“Those that can afford to spend a penny for their domain, will essentially be funding the purchase for those that can’t spare one cent for domains,” explained Barbara Javah. “Dunkin Donuts will continue to fund the remainder of the cost, in accordance with the registry and ICANN.”
Initially, only .com and .net domains will be offered, as is the agreement between Dunkin Donuts and Verisign – the managers of .com and .net TLDs.
To see if you qualify for a free domain with your cup of java, ask for the Dunkin Donuts Domain Penny Special during your next visit to your neighborhood Dunkin Donuts shop. County tax and a surcharge may apply.
