As if recent downtime problems at Moniker were not enough, here comes the proverbial cherry on the pie.
Apparently, domains caught by SnapNames and managed at Moniker under different registrars, actually now belong to Network Solutions, where they will be moved to.
Incredible as it may sound, all such caught domains now show “abuse@web.com” as the abuse email for the registrar.
Web.com is the mother company that owns Network Solutions, Register.com and other web companies.
A Moniker user shared his experience on the phone with tech support:
“ok…more big problems coming up with moniker! i just got off the phone with snapnames/web.com and apparently all domains that were caught via any other former moniker registrar is going to be moved to networksolutions. So, despite these domains being in my moniker account right now (most of them anyways) and even paying for renewals on them with moniker…they do not belong to moniker as when looking them up they have registrars like bullrundomains.com, frontstreetdomains.com, etc and reference abuse@web.com. of course, no one was told anything about this. i knew about domains that were caught after february were going to netsol, as they already have but these are domains purchased years ago through snapnames…the fun continues.”
This revelation has the potential to complicate matters even further, with ongoing domain transfers out of Moniker.
Will they be completed based on the current provision of authentication codes, or will these ongoing transfers fail to complete? What will happen to domains about to expire, or expired that cannot be renewed?

This is all correct except all domains acquired from Snapnames partners are not able to be transferred away from Moniker. They show in your account as “unlocked” however if you attempt to transfer the domains away, you will quickly receive a “locked” notification from your obtaining registrar. Apparently Moniker’s api is not communicating with the snap partner registrars leaving your domains locked. Yes, all your snap
domains are now being held hostage. Moniker has no time frame on how long this will continue. This is just one problem of hundreds that I can’t recap here.
Check my moniker posts.
I have a screenshot from the old control panel informing customers about this.

Oy!

I have registered OccupyMoniker.com / org and MonikerWatch.com /org
I hope they get their act together and this doesn’t turn out to be another RegisterFly fiasco in case any of you remember that one. Tens of thousands of name were lost, deleted or vanished. I lost over 300 domains in that mess. Supposedly ICANN has implemented procedures for warehousing whois data so this wouldn’t happen again.
Just to be on the safe side if anyone out there would like to get involved in getting the word out, with enough interest and assistance (as I am not a blogger) i would consider creating a site and spreading the word. You may email to get on list to: jaymiany99@gmail.com

Nice revelation!
Moniker is now holding its loyal (until now) customers to ransom !
Although you can get an Authorisation Code to transfer-out emailed to you (after a few hours) there is no point in paying a new registrar to transfer-in your domain since it’s impossible to get an “OK” (i.e.. unlocked) Status set – even though your Moniker control panel says your domain is unlocked.
THIS IS BASIC REGISTRAR FUNCTIONALITY THAT IS NOT WORKING & IS BLOCKING MONIKER CUSTOMERS TRANSFERRING-OUT !
It’s getting to the point where ICANN need to step in and remove ICANN accreditation from a registrar operating in such an unacceptable way !

What is utterly depressing in the extreme is that although Moniker appears to be imploding – zero web-based customer support, and I mean zero, I’ve submitted numerous tickets as have others – absolutely nobody except domainnamewire is reporting it. Are Moniker teflon-coated? Is it such a leap of comprehension that no one can take it n? Read the despairing posts at the link above and if any other registrar had come as close to the edge of implosion as Moniker has it would have been right around the domain blogosphere. But nada. Nothing. Nill. Not even a side note or passing comment. Either the domain blogs’ blinkers are fully on or they’re all turning a blind eye.
