ICANN50 closes its gates today, and while there is still a lot of coverage of achievements during the event, the biggest complaint appears to be rather ironic.
WiFi coverage was apparently sub-par, with participants being unable to connect and perform basic tasks when outside the core area of the conference.
On several occasions, frustrated tweets were sent out as a means of blowing off steam and in order to prod the ICANN50 organizers to resolve the issue.
Said Frank Schilling:
“#icann50 has honestly been the worst ever for in-room wifi in a developed Country. I still have none in towers. Really disapointing”
Schilling followed up with:
“Patterns hard to see sometimes, kind of like the terrible wifi at
#icann50. Now realise well-meaning staff must turn off the Web at night.”
Michele Neylon also shared a similar experience, stating:
“Worst mobile coverage ever – you’d swear we were out in the sticks”
Let’s hope ICANN51, that takes place in Los Angeles, California between October 12 and 16, will not have the same issues! 😀
