Wikipedia, the free online encyclopaedia, has reached a major milestone.
There are now more than 5,000,000 articles in Wikipedia, according to the latest statistics.
Wikipedia, the 7th most visited destination on the world wide web, according to Alexa, is also actively pursuing cases of infringing trademarks.
We found at least 34 UDRP cases filed by the Wikimedia Foundation, the managing entity behind Wikipedia.
To this date, “domainer” is not a stand-alone Wikipedia entry, unfortunately; the entry forwards to Domain name speculation.
Years ago I invested considerable time trying to educate Wikipedia moderators on domain name investing vs. cybersquatting, and I authored some informative, objective content on this topic which they refused to post. Ron Jackson addressed this effort in a DNJ newsletter (http://www.dnjournal.com/newsletters/2009/july.htm). The Wikipedia moderators were terribly arrogant and resistant, opting to paint domain name investing at that time in a negative light.
The current article there on domain name speculation has been cleaned up over the years, thankfully, and contains some accurate information. However, the experience opened my eyes to the unmistakable bias that has existed at Wikipedia. The experience soured by desire to help fund the website when they make their appeal for donations.
