Internet Reboot Report : Dandruff, Cheeto crumbs main cause of PPC domain “fat-fingering”

Cheetos in your keyboard leads to typos.

Typo-squatting owes a lot of its success to fat-fingering, the act of slipping a finger while typing a domain in the browser.

While some typographic errors are true misspellings of a domain name, a large number is due to foreign residue trapped inside the keyboard.

According to the Internet Reboot Institute :

“About 87.5% of all domain typos are caused by debris stuck between the keyboard keys, causing lateral friction and lack of tactile responsiveness,” said Bob Jizzman of the Internet Reboot Institute.

“Imagine what gets stuck in there: Cheetos, dandruff, peanut shells, even Greek FAGE yogurt that eventually dries into a solid crust.

About 80% is food, the rest is body particles; the mind boggles,” added Bob Jizzman.

By vacuuming and cleaning one’s computer keyboard regularly, such PPC errors dropped by 99% or more, according to the Internet Reboot Institute.

Domain investors can get in trouble by registering typo-domains, if intentionally or unintentionally they grab a trademark variant.

“Hair follicles, boogers, and other nasty droppings stuck inside one’s keyboard can lead to a UDRP,” says Bob Jizzman, adding: “Clean up your keyboard once a day, it will save you thousands of dollars in the long run!”

Cleanliness is next to godliness, and domain investors should be on their way to piety, with just a tissue and some Windex.

I can’t count the times an ill placed Twizzler has lead to someone accidental registering an “iPad” or “Google” derivative.
