Facebook became the largest social media company in the known cosmos today, crossing 2 billion unique user accounts.
The amazing feat was shared on Facebook by founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who stated:
As of this morning, the Facebook community is now officially 2 billion people!
We’re making progress connecting the world, and now let’s bring the world closer together.
It’s an honor to be on this journey with you.
That means, that more than a quarter of all humans now own a Facebook account – as long as one rules out the possibility of duplicate or multiple accounts in existence.
Facebook reached 1 billion people in October 2012, taking less than 5 years to double its user base.
When told that there are 5 billion people without a Facebook account, Mark Zuckerberg said:
“We still have a long way to go to connect everyone. But we must do more than just connect — we must bring people closer together.”
Not all comments were positive. One user stated the obvious:
“How many of those are inactive and fake accounts , including bots ?”
Another one chimed in:
“errrr i have like, 30+ facebook accounts.”
Either way, congratulations, Facebook for the monumental milestone!
