In a ground-breaking decision that follows an almost nine year process, BOOKING.COM is now a registered trademark.
The Supreme Court decision last year removed all obstacles for the USPTO to consider the mark’s registration; the certificate was issued to Booking.com BV, a private limited company in The Netherlands.
BOOKING.COM is officially a registered trademark with the USPTO as of January 5, 2021. The mark consists of standard characters for the following classes of services:
Making hotel reservations for others; holiday accommodation reservation services and resort reservation services, namely, providing hotel room reservation services and resort hotel reservation services and providing online hotel and resort hotel room reservation services; providing information about hotels, holiday accommodations and resorts accommodations, whether or not based on the valuation of customers; providing information, advice and consultancy relating making hotel reservations and temporary accommodation reservations; providing online information, advice and consultancy relating making hotel reservations and temporary accommodation reservations
Can you say Booking yeah? 😀
The Booking.com case opened the floodgates for dozens of other trademark applications involving generic domain names.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.
