#Domain sightings: Rhino Roofing uses an area code suffix

What do you do when your brand is taken as a .com domain? In the case of Rhino Roofing, the matching domain, RhinoRoofing.com, is parked at GoDaddy with a “for sale” sign.

Who needs an exact match .com to their brand – right? 😀

Rhino Roofing is a full service roofing company, founded by Russ Noyes. Their web site is Roof407.com, where the “407” is the phone area code designating Central Florida as the area of operations. The domain is seen on the parked utility truck seen below.

What about outside the Central Florida area, you might ask.

Relax, the domain Roof407.com is used as a URL forwarder to RussNoyesRoofing.com.

What’s a “domain sighting,” you may ask.

It’s when we encounter domain names in the real world, that appear on vehicle wraps and signs, billboards and business signs, and product wrapping. For convenience, we group them into .com domain sightings, and other ccTLDs, gTLDs and TLDs.

Memorable. Though, I would have elected to choose a different font or cross the zero out to make it stand alone. Perhaps someone new to the area—military, college student, etc.—won’t know the area code so it wouldn’t be as recognizable as it was to the person, that took the photo. While it may be only 1 potential customer that confuses this, that’s still 1 customer lost.
